In announcing support for Measure E, the Review writes :
There is no aspect of the current state, local and national budget crisis more depressing than the failure to adequately fund the education of our children. The travails of government employees, the lack of municipal services — all of it — pales in comparison to selling our children short.
Which is why we are compelled to support Measure E, a $150 parcel tax that would prop up Cabrillo Unified schools in the wake of disastrous funding decisions at the state level. The tax would stay in effect for five years and would not be subject to the annual raids Sacramento makes on local coffers now.

From The San Mateo Daily Journal :In recent years, there has been a movement toward parcel taxes to supplement state money that is too often unstable. With this parcel tax, the school district hopes to raise $1.5 million. It will not make up its entire shortfall. There will still need to be cuts. Coastsider Endorses Measure E:
If Measure E fails, all counselors will be eliminated at Half Moon Bay High School and Cunha Intermediate School. Life will go on as usual, but unknown numbers of Coastside teens will suffer as a result. Their parents will lose a direct link to the school.
My daughter has a particularly awesome second grade teacher. That teacher and many others may be laid off next year, because if Measure E fails the district will eliminate class size reductions in elementary school.
